Douglas Jones on loving our enemies:
Given that Father, Son, and Spirit, the most fundamental personal reality of the universe are “love” (1 John 4:16), we should expect the created order to run by the dynamics of love. In a universe driven by love, Christ’s commandments about love would sound natural and normal and strong. They would be organic, fitting, obvious, the only way that makes sense. But we can’t bring ourselves to believe in a world truly moved by love, and that’s one of the reasons we dismiss Jesus when he commands us to love our enemies. It’s too alien for us.
